  1. What is the CCB Open Donor Program?
The CCB Open Donor Program consists of selected CCB donors who state their intent, at the beginning of their participation in the program, to respond to a request for contact from offspring when the child reach 18 or older.
  2. What are the benefits of buying vials of a CCB Open Donor?
By choosing to buy vials from a CCB Open Donor, clients are giving their children, when they turn 18, the option to learn more about their donor and his background.
  3. How do CCB Open Donors differ from the conventional CCB Donors?
An open donor communicates his intent upon entering the CCB Open Donor Program to have future contact with offspring. A conventional donor decides when the offspring reaches age 18 whether to communicate with offspring. Both types of donors are anonymous. Identifying and/or contact information will not be released for either type of donor.
  4. What is the difference between the CCB Openness Policy and the CCB Open Donor Program?
With the CCB Openness Policy, donors decide whether they are willing to have contact with offspring when the offspring turn 18 or older and request contact. Contact is by mutual consent between donor and offspring. CCB Open Donors indicate their willingness to communicate with offspring when they enter the Open Donor Program.
  5. How many donors are in the CCB Open Donor Program?
The number of donors in the CCB Open Donor Program will vary. As this is a new program, initially a limited number of donors may be available. As with any CCB donors, vials are available on a first come first serve basis. The only way to guarantee future availability of a specific donor is to open a Purchase and Store account. Please call 866-927-9622 x1141 to open a storage account.
  6. What type of contact is required from the donors in the CCB Open Donor Program?
Contact between the donor and offspring may include, but is not limited, to the following: email, written letter, telephone conversation or meeting in person. The form and extent of the contact will be decided by mutual agreement between the donor and the child.
  7. How much contact with the offspring is required from donors in the CCB Open Donor Program?
CCB Open Donors are committed to at least one contact with the offspring. After the initial contact the donor is not obligated to any additional communication, but the donor and the child can continue communication if they wish.
  8. Is it possible for parents to contact donors before the child is 18?
No. Contact can only be established between the donor and the child after he or she turns 18.
  9. Will the parents be allowed to participate during the first contact between the child and the donor?
It is the child's decision to involve his or her parents during communication with the donor.
  10. Why do CCB Open Donors choose to participate in the program? What are their motivations?
Most donors feel that they would like to have that option if they were in the same situation.
  11. What type of donor information do you offer for CCB Open Donors?
We offer the same information as for conventional CCB donors. In addition, all CCB Donors are contacted for updates 2, 5, 10, 15, and 20 years after retirement. Please visit our donor information for details.
  12. What updated information about the CCB Open Donor will be available?
Donor updates will contain information regarding the donor professional life, family life, new life goals or ambitions, new hobbies and interests, his feelings about participating in the program and any message he would like to pass on to the recipients and their children. The updated donor profile will be available, free of charge, to any client who used a CCB Open Donor.
  13. What are the per vial fees for CCB Open Donors?
Please see our fee schedule for current fees for our Open Donors.
  14. What happens if the donor changes his mind regarding participation in the Open Donor Program?
The CCB Open Donor is agreeing at the beginning of his participation in the program to establish a meaningful contact with the offspring. CCB will make every attempt to facilitate contact.
  15. Can a conventional CCB donor become a CCB Open Donor?
No. Because this is a new program, only donors entering the program are offered the option to participate in the CCB Open Donor Program. We cannot include in this program CCB donors with vials that were already released and sold.
  16. Do CCB Open Donors go through the same screening process as conventional donors?
All CCB donors have to pass the same stringent screening process in order to qualify for our program. Learn more about our donor screening process.
  17. How can clients who used a CCB Open Donor inform the company of pregnancies and births?
Clients who used any CCB donor are strongly advised to submit an Outcome of Insemination report either online or via mail. Submitting the report will facilitate future contact with the donor.

HOW MANY VIALS DO I NEED?

National averages range from 3-4 insemination cycles per successful pregnancy. We recommend purchasing at least 5 vials per child to guarantee your donor remains available until reaching your personal family goals. Additionally, you get 1 Year FREE storage if you purchase 4 or more vials ($475 value).

WHY SHOULD I THINK ABOUT STORING VIALS?

Our donors sell out and retire quickly! We have thousands of clients forced to choose between a new donor or not having a second child because they chose not to store vials for future use while they were available. To help you plan for your future, we offer 3 Years FREE storage if you purchase 3 Years+ vials ($1,050 value) - as well as the ability to sell back any unused vials that have not left our control.
